West Coast Camping

We are kicking off our journey close to home, at Smithwoods in Felton, CA.

One of the sites under the Redwoods

Under the redwoods, Smithwoods RV park borders Henry Cowell park, with lots of hiking and equestrian trails, and right down the road is Roaring Camp, where you can take a steam engine train through the woods to the beach. The sound of the train horn through the redwoods harkens back to another time.

The sites are spacious and have full utility hookups, and they have a pool and a dog park. The San Lorenzo River borders the park, it’s a short walk to the river below.

If you want a change from your own camp cooking, or a special dining experience, Scopazzi’s is a short and scenic drive to Boulder Creek. This old world Italian restaurant is one of the few places that will prepare special dishes table-side, such as Caesar salad, Cherries Jubilee or Steak Diane. We had to make one last visit while we were here, as we will really miss it.

Smithwoods is only a 15 minute drive to Santa Cruz, so it’s easy to get to other nearby attractions, and Cotillion Garden is next door, if you are looking for cabin rentals. It’s a peaceful environment, if you are planning a visit to this area, it’s worth a visit.
